The timing of a big winter storm poised to move across the country Thursday into Friday is unsettling for some as busy holiday travel ramps up.It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for people traveling, it could be a nightmare in the coming days as a major winter storm could bring blizzard-like conditions to the Midwest and Northeast.Airport officials told sister station 11 News on Tuesday they were expecting Thursday and Friday to be the busiest days, but now, that could shift to possibly Wednesday. Rachel Hudson said she and her son cut their trip short a few days to ensure they could make it back to California.”We did a cruise to the Bahamas last week, and then we came here for about five days, and now we’re going to go home and enjoy the holidays at home. (We’re) trying to get out of here before the storm hits,” Hudson said. “I was banking on it, like, fingers crossed over the last two weeks, just hoping. So, it looks like we caught it right on time. It looks like it’s going to be here tomorrow or Thursday.” Other travelers said they had already planned to travel Tuesday, thus beating any potential for delays or cancellations.”We’re not too concerned because our flight times are early and late enough that I don’t think it’ll affect us,” said Brandon White, a traveler. The Formen family also made some last-minute arrangements about a month ago, which are now paying dividends.”We did shift some things around just because some things change. We did shuffle around about a month ago. It looks like it paid off,” said Nick Formen, a traveler. All of the major carriers are issuing weather waivers for travel in and out of the Midwest and Northeast. The waivers usually make it possible to switch to a different date without paying additional costs or fees, but it’s recommended travelers call their airline for the latest information. As travel picks up at the airport, some people said they’re already anticipating snow.”We’re actually heading to a much colder place, Minnesota,” said Amit Goyal, a traveler. “I think they’ve already got it.”So, the key is travelers who want to try and make changes should try to do it sooner than later as flights for Wednesday are filling up.Watch the video above for the full story.
