DENVER (KDVR) — A fire investigator has determined that a 132-acre wildfire actively burning on the south side of Twin Lakes Reservoir was caused by an abandoned campfire.
Law enforcement officers with the Pike-San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Camanche Grasslands, where the fire is located, have confirmed the fire investigator’s findings.
The blaze, dubbed the La Plata Fire, is located approximately four miles southwest of Twin Lakes and is at 0% containment, as of 1:51 p.m. Saturday.
The fire began nearly a week ago at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 and has been burning in rugged terrain with heavy dead and down timber, according to Inciweb, a government website for fire reporting.
PSICC is requesting anyone with information about the cause of the fire to contact it by email with “La Plata Fire Information” in the subject line.
