Zelina Vega isn’t afraid to make bold moves in WWE, but when it comes to narrowing down a Mount Rushmore of women’s wrestling, even she admits it’s nearly impossible.
During her interview with WrestleStar, the WWE Women’s United States Champion was asked the classic question: Who belongs on her personal Mount Rushmore of WWE’s women? Vega quickly made it clear the answer isn’t as simple as rattling off four names.
“That’s such a hard question. That’s such a hard question because… what, do you only get four? Yeah, dude, that’s like… oh my God, that’s so hard. I mean, the thing is, like, I know for me there’s also two different lists, right? Because there’s people that I like for different reasons. There’s wrestlers, and then there’s managers. For a while, I could have told you, you know, Stephanie McMahon was my everything when it came to managing. Melina, Sherri Martel… there was like a certain list of people that I went to. Paul Heyman… like, there were certain people that I went to for managing.”
Vega explained that when it comes to pure in-ring wrestling, two names are locked in—but the rest of the list gets complicated.
“When it comes to wrestling, it’s like, oh my God, you know… I feel like you can’t have a Mount Rushmore without Lita, without a Trish. But then past that, it gets hard, man. There’s just like those two spots where I’m like… there’s so many more. And especially, like, you look at the legends, and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, Ivory, Victoria… so many amazing women.’ But then you also think, like, ‘Oh, but Rhea’s amazing, and Bianca’s amazing, and they’ve done and accomplished so many things.’ So that’s tough, bro. I don’t even know if I could answer that. I wish I could just say, like, here’s your list of ten. But yeah, it’s difficult.”
Vega’s answer reflects the ongoing debate among fans about how to balance the legends who paved the way with the modern-day stars breaking new ground in WWE’s women’s division.
