Jaxson Ryker was among the names of wrestlers to be let go by WWE last week as part of the latest round of talent cuts.
Fightful Select recently reported that Ryker had “an incredible amount of heat” in the company. Ryker received a lot of backlash from fans and those in WWE for his comments about the Black Lives Matter movement last year.
It was said that he largely “laid low” when some of the initial heat died down. However, those who they spoke with stated that they had an issue with Ryker being the reason that Wesley Blake and Steve Maclin were taken off TV only for the company to have him return to television before Blake and Maclin did.
Most people in the company expected him to be released as part of the earlier cuts that WWE made. A source in creative stated that it was evident that the character wasn’t getting over when fans returned and felt like it was an “uphill battle to get a reaction.”
