WARREN COUNTY, Mo. – A Warren County woman is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the fast food restaurant where she works.
According to the Wright City Police Department’s probable cause statement, the owner of a McDonald’s franchise contacted police on Aug. 5 and reported an employee, Heather Brand, had stolen cash from the restaurant.
The owner told police she had not completed a full check of her bank statements, but believed Brand had stolen at least $6,000. She told officers that Brand was driving back to the restaurant to return the money, but Brand allegedly said she had no intention of going to jail.
When Brand parked outside, police said officers attempted to detain her, but she tried to drive away. Police blocked her vehicle and took her into custody. Officers found a bag in the passenger seat containing $6,009.20.
During an interview with police, Brand admitted to taking around $15,000 over the past year, using the money for bills, medication, and groceries.
The owner also told investigators that the store was missing $52,737.15 from July alone.
The Warren County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Brand with stealing – $25,000 or more and resisting arrest. Brand bonded out of jail on Aug. 7. She has a court hearing scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19.
