LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 News Now) — A woman has died after an apparent drowning near Callahan Falls in Laurel County on Friday afternoon, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the incident happened shortly before 2 p.m., when a man driving a Utility Terrain Vehicle overturned in water. Investigators say the female passenger was unable to get out and drowned.
Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced the woman dead at the scene. She has been identified as 63-year-old Penny Marie Nelk of Danville, Illinois.
The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing.
