MONDAY JANUARY 26 WINTER WEATHER UPDATE
- Lincoln County Offices will operate on a 2 hour delay Tuesday, January 27th.
- Convenience Sites: Tin Mine, Airport, Car Farm and Optimist will open at 11 am Tuesday January 27. Landfill will open at 11am. Owls Den and North Brook will open at 1 pm. The rest remain closed as crews continue to clear the ice and the sun helps us out.
- Lincoln County 911 continues to be heavily inundated with non-emergency calls. A lot of them are falls. Please be careful when venturing out, ICE IS SLIPPERY.
- Lincoln County Airport runway/taxiway is currently free of ice and snow. The road driving into the airport is still icey. (Check out the before and after pics!)
- Thank you so much to North Carolina Department of Transportation crews who have been continuously working to clean our roads. Your work is much appreciated and the main roads and highways look splendid. Secondary roads continue to be covered in ice even though the temperatures were slightly above freezing today. If you do head out, slow your speed. You have all done a great job staying home and keeping our first responders safe!

Lincoln County Emergency Management Shelter Plan
Lincoln County Emergency Management has an emergency preparedness plan which includes the opening of shelters if certain conditions are met including major power outages and infrastructure failures. Emergency Management is assessing the situation of the storm hour by hour along with County Management. If a decision is made to open shelters, the primary sites will be Lincolnton High School, secondary sites if needed are North Brook Community Center and East Lincoln Community Center. If a decision is made to activate the sites, a notification will be posted on the County website and social media sites. A phone number dedicated to shelter questions will also be activated and included in the communication. Please do not call 911 for shelter questions.
SUNDAY JANUARY 25, 2026 UPDATE 12:00 PM

- A number of locations have reported sleet changing to freezing rain. The event is not over–heavy freezing rain expected later today. Do not travel unless necessary. Remain prepared to lose power. Looking ahead, the peak power outage threat will likely be between 2 and 6 PM this afternoon, when a line of precipitation will likely be accompanied by brief heavy freezing rain and gusty winds, potentially increasing tree and power line damage.
- All County Convenience Sites are CLOSED today.
- Check on your neighbors. We are all in this together and if we look out for one another it will help us all.
- EMS crews have been fortunate, while some responses are taking a bit more time, we have been able to reach and transport all patients. But as conditions worsen this afternoon and evening, response times could change. DO NOT CALL 911 FOR POWER OUTAGES.

- Stranded vehicles may be left on the side of the road and marked with a piece of yellow caution tape. If you see a vehicle with yellow caution tape on the mirror or wrapping the vehicle, it has been checked by first responders, and it is not an emergency.
SATURDAY JANUARY 24, 2026 UPDATE
- According to the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg a major ice storm is still on tap. Precipitation rates ramp up this evening. Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly this evening as wintry precipitation spreads east from the mountains. Roads and other surfaces may become icy in a short period of time as temperatures continue to fall and freezing rain spreads toward the I-85 corridor through midnight.
- Lincoln County has declared a State of Emergency effective at 5:30 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2026 due to the impending severe impacts from the projected winter storm. The declaration is in preparation for the anticipated winter storm. This will allow the County and Lincoln County Emergency Services to activate additional resources and implement response and recovery efforts and will also support our surrounding counties.
- Please do not call 911 to report power outages. If you are looking for information or resources, you may use 211 or 888-892-1162. Available 24/7/365 for free in multiple languages.

- The ice may make some roads impassable even for Emergency Responders. Lincoln County Emergency Services has equipped vehicles for the storm but some calls could be delayed. Staying home will help our first responders.

Lincoln County has declared a State of Emergency effective at 5:30 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2026 due to the impending severe impacts from the projected winter storm. LINCOLN COUNTY DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY
FRIDAY JANUARY 23, 2026 UPDATE:
According to the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg winter weather is currently expected to begin around 1pm Saturday, with the most dangerous conditions Saturday night through Sunday morning. Precipitation will start as sleet and freezing rain, then transition to freezing rain Sunday morning.
- Ice accumulations of 0.5 to 0.75 of an inch is possible in #LincolnCountyNC. “Please prepare now for a CRIPPLING ICE STORM,” says the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg. Expect hazardous travel. Stay home. This keeps you safe and our Lincoln County First Responders safe.
- Power outages are highly likely, and repairs may take longer than usual. Prepare now for extended impacts. Please follow your energy provider for the latest updates.
- Lincoln County Offices will be closed Monday January 26, due to the pending weather conditions anticipated over the weekend. Further, Tuesday, January 27th, will be on a 2-hour delay.
- Lincoln County Parks and Rec will close all parks and facilities starting at 1pm Saturday until further notice.
- Lincoln County Library will close all library branches at 1pm Saturday.
- Convenience sites and Landfill will close at 5 pm Saturday.
- Lincoln County Animal Services will close the shelter at 1pm Saturday.

Wednesday January 21, 2026 Update:
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC from 7am Saturday to 1pm Monday for our area. Forecast indicates greater impacts from ice and sleet and less impact from snow. Hazardous travel and widespread power outages are possible with this storm. Power outages could last for multiple days. Specific amounts remain uncertain. Lincoln County will provide important updates on website and social media pages regarding any County closures and storm impacts including Convenience Sites and Landfill. Please follow your energy provider for the latest updates regarding any possible outages.
