NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Very-humid conditions are still present as periodic showers with rumbles of thunder are leftover but have mostly dissipated in northern areas to the high elevations of western areas, as well as in the Sacramento Mountains, but spotty storms are starting to reform in the high elevations. East-gap winds were even gustier this morning in eastern to central areas with some patchy fog earlier as well in the Northeast Highlands.
Way-above-freezing temperatures were once again confined to most of the higher peaks of the Northern Mountains with valley floor locations mostly starting off in the 40s or in the 50s. Elsewhere was mostly starting off in the upper 50s to the low 70s.
Southerly to westerly upper-level winds are forming with even more moisture in place as a high pressure system shifts east of New Mexico. So, more rounds of Monsoonal thunderstorms will form because of a surface cool front moving farther to the southwest, not only bringing the gustier easterly winds, but also, the higher humidity at the surface. Rain will fall across the northern majority of the region, including the Rio Grande Valley later in the day. Flash flooding will be very likely in the burn scars especially with some pockets of hail in the stronger storms, as well as more-widespread outflow winds that will be gustier.
More clouds will counter the sinking, compressing air mass, so afternoon temperatures will rise not as much as yesterday for most. High temperatures will be below normal for more areas, except for southern areas still being warmer than normal, as most will reach the 70s, 80s and low 90s, while areas in the high elevations may not get out of the 60s.
Moisture has moved in, but the pendulum swing pattern of muggy mornings out east with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons forming storms to the east will still continue though. Monsoon conditions will continue to be accompanied by lower temperatures through the majority of this week, including for even more areas to the south eventually.
