Veterans Memorial Park
At 9 a.m. on July 4th, visit the American Revolution Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 339 Veterans Parkway, near the river and close to downtown, for a ceremony that commemorates what actually happened on the day Americans formally declared their independence. This is a remarkable day to commemorate. The event will include:
- performance of the National Anthem and Taps on the bugle
- chaplain’s invocation and closing prayer
- reciting the Pledge of Allegiance
- presentation of colors by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard
- guest speaker, retired Marine Corps Sergeant Major Richard Lewallen from Topeka
Bring a lawn chair if you or a loved one won’t be able to stand for the whole ceremony, which usually lasts around an hour. The Independence Day tribute at Veterans Memorial Park is FREE and open to the public.
