FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nichols Street will close to traffic between Scott and Hutchinson avenues from Aug. 11-18. Beginning Aug. 19 through Sept. 5, the street will reopen to a single westbound lane only. Eastbound traffic is advised to seek an alternate route.
The closure will facilitate the construction of the Nichols Street Sidewalk and Stormwater Improvement Project. Construction will include the installation of sidewalk and driveway replacements along the south side of Nichols Street to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. Stormwater drainage infrastructure including curb and gutter, inlets and underground pipe will also be constructed.
The project is expected to cost approximately $230,000 funded primarily through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds with contributions from the ¼-cent Capital Improvement and 1/8-cent Transportation sales taxes.
