- August 9 Downtown Growers’ Market – Visit Albuquerque’s longest-running farmers’ market for the largest selection of local farmers providing fresh produce, eggs, honey, meats, local goods, hot prepared foods on-site, and handmade art, crafts, and body care products. Every Saturday from April to mid-November, enjoy live music starting at 10 a.m.
- August 9 Winrock Artisan Market – Visit Winrock Park every Saturday for a one-of-a-kind market experience. This market is pet-friendly, with local artisans, food trucks, live entertainment, and family fun. - August 10 Old School Day at the Rail Yards Market – The Rail Yards Market is kicking it old school in the best way: with bomb food, smooth jams, and a classic car show. - August 9 High Desert Flow Festival – Join Rio Rancho for a day of healing, joy, and community in the heart of the high desert. This vibrant celebration will feature dance, yoga, qigong, sound baths, a curated vendor market offering wellness products, handmade goods, holistic services, shaded spaces, kids welcome, and lots of good vibes. This festival is from 2 to 7 p.m.
- August 9 Summer 2025 Arts & Crafts Fair – Los Alamos Arts Council and Fuller Lodge Art Center’s Annual Summer Craft fair is right around the corner and just in time to beat the back-to-school blues. - August 9 Enchanted Circle – This bicycle tour offers participants the opportunity to ride some of the most scenic areas in the southwest, through Taos, Angel Fire, Questa, Red River, and Eagle Nest. On both the 85- and 100-mile courses, cyclists will experience rewarding climbs, rolling hills, fast descents, and hairpin turns. The tour includes full route support, stocked aid stations, music, food, and libations.
- August 9 Full Moon Night at White Sands National Park – Join Ruidoso Parks & Rec for a magical full-moon evening at White Sands National Park. Enjoy hiking, stargazing, and stunning dune views from 6 to 11 p.m.
- August 9 Otero County Farmer’s Market – Check out the only year-round farmers market in the area with many local farmers, crafters, bakers, and more, exclusively from Otero County. This event occurs every Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
- August 9 Splash Bash – Visit Hobbs for a day of slides, bouncy houses, water games, DJ music, food trucks, and more. This event is from 12 to 6 p.m.
- August 10 Santa Fe Bike Fest – Calling all two-wheeled riders—klunkers, cargos, customs, and more. Line up, swap stories, and show off the wear and tear. No podiums, just well-loved bikes, fun prizes, and plenty of gawking, high-fives, and tire pressure debates. If it rolls and has a story, it belongs. This event starts at 5 p.m.

Those rules give clear authority to the City of Albuquerque’s Animal Welfare Department to seize pets for sale.
🔶What’s happening at Expo New Mexico this August? – The New Mexico State Fair is coming the first weekend of September at Expo New Mexico. Before the fair begins, Expo is home to a variety of events happening throughout August.
🔶APS leaders discuss gun safety going into new school year – Classes begin for many Albuquerque schools this Thursday. And in the wake of rising rates of guns on campuses, the Albuquerque Public Schools is ramping up safety and security on campus.
🔶Albuquerque makes DOJ’s ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’ list – The United States Justice Department published a list of sanctuary jurisdictions around the country and threatened legal action against them. Albuquerque was included in the list of cities.
🔶I-25 northbound offramp at Paseo del Norte frontage road to close overnight – The I-25 northbound offramp for the Paseo del Norte frontage road will be closed on Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The New Mexico Department of Transportation said the closure is for an attenuator replacement. The westbound flyover will stay open.
🔶Celebrating 20 years of helping women coming out of incarceration – The nonprofit, A Peaceful Habitation, aims to empower, encourage, and enlighten women in transition from incarceration back to the community. The organization has a transitional home for women and a wellness center that offers resources for men, women, and families. This year, A Peaceful Habitation is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
🔶Community invited to open house at New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence – The New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence is inviting the community to an open house at their new office later this month. Partners, advocates, and elected officials are also welcome to attend.
🔶Over $7.5 million appropriated to affordable housing projects in downtown Albuquerque, Barelas – Albuquerque city councilors passed a resolution Monday night appropriating millions of dollars to multiple affordable housing projects in downtown and Barelas. The measure allocates more than $7.5 million in state capital outlay funding to three projects.
🔶APS welding teacher passing the torch; plans to support students in new role – Punching a time clock, creating cost estimates, making materials lists, and completing welding projects for Albuquerque Public Schools while earning money. This isn’t a job posting; it’s how Valley High School teacher Shawn Coffey has operated his classroom while teaching students the ins and outs of welding and the trade industry.
🔶City of Albuquerque partners to bring virtual program for solo agers – The six-week virtual Aging Alone Together series is DOROT’s flagship program for solo agers, people who by choice or circumstance expect to age independently. A total of $1,306,097 is expected to be awarded to Route 66 communities across the state in the fiscal year of 2026.
🔶New Mexico expands SNAP benefits for residents impacted by disaster – New Mexico has temporarily expanded SNAP benefits for residents impacted by disaster to allow them to purchase hot and ready-to-eat foods from deli departments.
🔶A dozen trees at Fort Marcy Park cut down ahead of 101st Zozobra burning – Residents near a park in Santa Fe are mourning the loss of a dozen trees that organizers said had to go before this year’s burning of Zozobra. Some neighbors said they’re outraged, while Zozobra organizers said it lays the groundwork for something better.
🔶Gila Wildlife Rescue rehabilitates between 150 to 300 animals each year – In Silver City, there’s a nonprofit that’s been rehabilitating birds and mammals for over 45 years. Gila Wildlife Rescue is an organization run by Dennis and Denise Miller, who aim to release animals back into the wild after they’ve been through the rehab process. They care for anywhere between 150 and 300 animals a year.
🔶FBI report shows reduction in crime in New Mexico – The FBI released a nationwide crime report, looking at data from 2024. The study shows a major improvement in every category they studied, and so has New Mexico.
🔶Free vaccine clinics available around New Mexico in August – The New Mexico Department of Health is offering free vaccinations for children 18 years old and under throughout August. The Got Shots clinics around the state give families a chance to get caught up on required shots ahead of the school year.
🔶What Happens When The Rio Grande Runs Dry? – The Rio Grande is dry in the metro again, for only the second time in 40 years. With New Mexico already in a ‘water debt’ to Texas under the Rio Grande Compact, what does this mean for farmers, crops, and the local drinking water supply?
🔶Federal tax credit to expire for EV purchases but state credit will continue – Last week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency made the move to repeal some greenhouse gas emission regulation standards for vehicles. These changes in emissions standards will impact people buying electric cars nationally and in Albuquerque. Even though the federal tax credit will be going away, the good news is that New Mexico will offer a lesser tax credit that will not be going away.
