JAMES ISLAND — Charleston Water System crews are anticipating a water outage that will affect several hundred customers the night of June 25.
Maintenance repairs will commence around 11 p.m. on a leaking Dills Bluff Road water valve, officials said.
Water customers between Williams Road and Winborn Drive will likely be without access to water for several hours. Repairs are expected to conclude around 2 a.m. June 26.
During the course of repairs, one lane of traffic will be closed between Greenhill Road and Seaside Lane.
The outage is expected to impact around 240 water meters throughout the area, potentially including an apartment complex that utilizes the service line, said Mike Saia, spokesperson for Charleston Water System.
The future disruption is a continuation of a brief water outage that occurred on the night of June 24 and affected some 50 customers, Saia said. While water was restored to the area around 2 a.m. the following morning, the issue grew and will require technicians to expand their working area to address the valve leakage.
Currently, the impacted valve is leaking water into an area ditch and is not posing traffic or safety concerns to the area, Saia said. Additionally, there is no risk of contamination.
Customers should plan accordingly for the outage by ensuring that they have made plans for daily activity usage, such as showering ahead of time or keeping toilet tanks full, Saia said.
