Jasprit Bumrah continued from where he left on Day 1 in the deciding third Test of the series versus South Africa, getting the wicket of Proteas’ set opener Aiden Markram to start play on Day 2 on Wednesday (January 12).

The ace Indian quick got Markram out bowled off only the second delivery of the first over of play, with the right-hand batter shouldering arms only to see the incoming ball dislodge the off-stump bail.

Bumrah gave India just the right kind of start his time needed after having posted only 223 on board in the first innings on Day 1. He had also dismissed South Africa’s Johannesburg hero Dean Elgar near the close of play on Tuesday (January 11).

Jasprit Bumrah gets Aiden Markram to start Day 2 in Cape Town

After a rare poor outing in the second Test, Jasprit Bumrah began right on the money on Day 1 in Cape Town, sending down four straight maiden overs and also dismissing Elgar. Changing his line away from the left-hander, Bumrah opened the South African captain up and got him nicking through to the first-slip.

But Bumrah would’ve been even more delighted to get Markram out the way he did, making the batter play the wrong length after he anticipated it would bounce over the stumps. Instead, the ball shaped into the right-hander and disturbed his off-stump.

The wicket of Markram would’ve been a proper mood lifter for the Indian team as they look to keep South Africa down in the first-innings of the all-important series decider, having got a score about 50-60 short of par for the surface after opting to bat upon winning the toss.

Early signs of Jasprit Bumrah’s return to his best also augurs well for the side. The pacer bowled superbly in Centurion but struggled, especially in the second half, during the second Test played in Johannesburg where South Africa came roaring back into the three-match series.
