LONDONDERRY, Vt. (NEWS10) — Vermont State Police are investigating a suspicious death. It began around 3:30 p.m. Friday when Bennington police were called to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center where a woman had been dropped off with significant injuries, including head injury believed to be a gunshot wound.
The hospital was placed on temporary lockdown while Bennington police secured the area and determined that a shooting had not occurred on site. A person of interest was taken into custody at the hospital.
Bennington police learned the woman was injured in Londonderry in southern Vermont, and the case was turned over to Vermont State Police.
Vermont troopers responded to the home where the woman was injured on Vermont Route 11 near Thompsonburg Road and processed it for evidence.
The victim was pronounced dead at SVMC, and an autopsy will be performed over the weekend. Her identity is not being released until family has been notified. Police are not currently releasing any information about the person who was detained.
