SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The County of San Diego on Thursday posted a disturbing video of a dog being dragged behind a vehicle in Spring Valley.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. near the 9100 block of Edgewood Drive, according to county officials.
Witnesses told San Diego County Animal Services that they saw a red and brown Doberman being dragged behind a vehicle traveling at an estimated 30 miles per hour.
The video shows the dog flipping over while being dragged. Witnesses reported the driver appeared to laugh and ignore bystanders’ attempts to intervene.
The vehicle continued to drag the dog for several minutes along Bancroft Drive, the county said.
“This is a truly shocking act of cruelty,” said County Animal Services Director Vaughn Maurice. “We are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible and ensure they are held accountable. We need the community’s help. If you saw anything or know who was involved, please contact us immediately. Your tip could make all the difference for this innocent animal.”
San Diego County Animal Services is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect who witnesses describe as a man in his thirties with long gold or brown hair and a red beard.
The suspect vehicle appeared to be an older model black Jeep Cherokee that may have previously been owned by another individual. Investigators are working to locate the current owner.

Viewer discretion is advised as the video contains graphic footage of a dog being dragged.
Anyone with information about this crime, the suspect or the whereabouts of the dog involved is urged to call San Diego County Animal Services at 619-541-1155. Callers can remain anonymous.
