A dog’s desperate attempt to befriend her cat sibling left viewers in stitches—and the cat annoyed.
Dogs take pride in their reputation of wanting to be friends with anyone and anything, but they cannot grasp the idea that, on rare occasions, others don’t share that sentiment. That’s what happened with TikTok user @angieeeaguirre’s canine, Gracie.
In a June 3 TikTok video, Gracie stood up on the couch, getting as close as possible to her orange cat brother, who was trying to enjoy some peace and quiet on the back of the sofa. Unable to control her excitement for the possible budding friendship, Gracie’s tail began wagging, accidentally whipping him again and again as he tried to nap.
Gracie thought that because the cat did not move away from her, she was finally earning trust. A long-awaited friendship was on the horizon. However, the feline’s face showed the feeling was not reciprocated.
Each time the dog’s tail slapped his back, the cat shuddered with annoyance. He turned his head toward Gracie and eyed her down. One look was enough for Gracie to get the hint. She stopped and spread out on the couch while keeping her eyes fixed on the cat, hopeful he would come around. Clearly, that day would not be the day.
But, as the caption explained, “This is a one-sided friendship,” whether the dog realizes it or not.
Newsweek reached out to @angieeeaguirre via TikTok for comment.
Viewer Reactions
The TikTok clip reached over 1.1 million views and 249,600 likes as of Thursday, leaving users cracking up at the cat taking the tail slaps and debating whose side to take in this situation.
“To be fair, the pupper most likely doesn’t realize what he’s doing,” a person wrote in support of Gracie.

Wondering why the cat didn’t move, a second user asked: “Did you tell him he has free will? Like he doesn’t have to be there.”
Someone advocating for the cat commented: “Dawg, knock it off, that does look annoying.”
Looking on the bright side, some viewers thought that because the cat didn’t move, Gracie’s plan was working. They’ll end up as best friends in no time.
