(KRON) — A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officer was hit and dragged by an off-road vehicle while trying to detain the driver in San Jose on the Fourth of July, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The USFWS officer attempted to stop the off-road vehicle in the area of the Marsh View Trail Head at the intersection of Grand Boulevard and Los Esteros Road at about 9:23 p.m.
“The subject drove the Can-Am vehicle into the officer causing the officer to be dragged,” SJPD said.

The officer fired their gun at the unidentified suspect, who ran from the officer and remains at large. It is unknown if the officer’s bullet hit the suspect.
The officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The case is under investigation.
