DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region is hosting a public meeting on Aug. 7 to discuss mule deer herd management plans.
The management plan discussion will focus on mule deer herds west of Interstate 25 in Chaffee, Park, Teller, Fremont, eastern Costilla, western Huerfano, Las Animas, Custer, Pueblo and western El Paso counties, CPW said Friday.
The meeting will be held Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at Rawlings Library, located at 100 E. Abriendo Ave. in Pueblo.
CPW said the meeting will “gather critical community input for the Southeast Region’s mule deer population objectives and draft herd management plan,” which the agency said will be in place for ten years.
“Public engagement, particularly from those with an interest in wildlife herd management and hunting, is critical to this process,” said CPW Southeast Region Senior Wildlife Biologist Julie Stiver, in a statement.
The meeting will be an open-house style event and will include information on deer management in the area, CPW’s intentions for managing deer, deer hunting opportunities in the area and public input on deer herd management, the agency said.
CPW said that public comments will be included with the draft deer herd management plan, which will later be presented to the CPW Commission for approval.
