An unintended chemical release at a suburban swim school sent five people to the hospital Thursday evening, authorities said.
Around 5 p.m., authorities responded to the Goldfish Swim School, located at 678 North Northwest Highway in Park Ridge, after employees unintentionally released a chemical.
Authorities said 25 people were treated at the scene and five were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The people affected were a mix of instructors and students, and potentially some parents, authorities said.
The hazmat team was on scene to help mitigate hazards, authorities said.
As of 6:45 p.m., authorities said there was no risk to the public.
Aerial footage from NBC Chicago Sky 5 showed several ambulances outside the swim school around 6 p.m.
No additional information was immediately available.
