SAN ANTONIO – One person is dead and another person is wounded following a shooting and vehicle crash on Interstate 10 early Wednesday morning, the San Antonio Police Department said.
Officers were called around 1:30 a.m. to an area of I-10 eastbound near Foster Road after receiving word of a crash involving a truck.
According to police, officers arrived to find 26-year-old Ronnie Alvarez deceased and a 25-year-old woman with a gunshot wound inside the vehicle. The woman was taken by EMS to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition.
Police said Alvarez had what appeared to be trauma to his body also from an apparent gunshot wound.
A witness told SAPD that the truck was driving erratically on the highway just before it hit a side wall and a light pole. The truck then came to a stop on the highway. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Authorities say during the investigation they found both a gun and shell casings inside the truck. They also found a bullet hole that appears to be an exit hole in the truck’s window, police said.
The highway and the access road were both closed during the morning hours as emergency crews worked. They have since reopened.
