AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard bridge at Interstate 35 is expected to be closed over the weekend for continued demolition of the north side of the bridge, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
The construction project is part of the ongoing effort to expand I-35 in Austin.
Closures began Friday evening and are expected to resume Saturday at 11 p.m. and continue through 10 a.m. Sunday.
TxDOT said traffic closures and detours would include:
- Southbound I-35: Right lane closed from Clyde Littlefield Drive to 15th Street
- Southbound MLK bypass will be closed
- Eastbound MLK traffic: Detour to the southbound I-35 frontage road and U-turn at 15th Street
- Westbound MLK traffic: Detour to the northbound I-35 frontage road and U-turn at Clyde Littlefield Drive/Manor Road
According to TxDOT, drivers should stay alert for trucks and equipment during the construction effort.
