The 2025 edition of Wimbledon has entered its most exciting phase and the big favorites are trying to play their best tennis to get to the final, being aware that this surface makes the matches more balanced and the dangers are many.
It is no coincidence that Carlos Alcaraz has already lost four sets at Church Road so far, two against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini on his debut, one against Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round and one against Andrey Rublev in the round of 16.
The world No.2 – who has lifted this trophy in the last two editions – has been far from perfect so far and knows he will have to raise his level if he wants to prevail again this year, becoming the youngest player ever to win six Grand Slam titles.
Seven-time tournament champion Novak Djokovic lost a set to Alexandre Muller in the first round and suffered especially against Alex de Minaur in the round of 16, with the Australian ace winning the first set very clearly and leading by a break in the fourth set, before suffering the vehement reaction of the Serbian legend who avoided further trouble.
Only Jannik Sinner’s run has been impeccable so far, considering that the current world number 1 has not given up a single set to his opponents and has lost only 17 games to enter the round of 16 (where he will face Grigor Dimitrov).
Toni Nadal’s opinion
In his column for ‘El Pais’, Toni Nadal expressed some very interesting thoughts on the top favorites in this edition of the Championships: “Although Nole Djokovic is now far from his ‘prime’, he is still very dangerous on these courts and could be the second favorite top behind Carlitos Alcaraz thanks to his infinite experience.”
Toni also reflected on Sinner: “The Italian ace looked really unbeatable before the Roland Garros final, but he didn’t take advantage of the favorable moment and suffered an unexpected disappointment. We’ll see how he reacts if there’s a new final against Carlos.”
