One of the former stars of “The Bachelor” toured the newly renovated Mesa Arizona temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
- Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham Luyendyk are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nonmembers of the church can visit temples during open houses.
The temple opened again this past weekend for the first public open house tour since 1975
- The temple’s open house will run from Saturday, Oct. 16, through Saturday, Nov. 20, except for Sundays (Oct. 17, 24 and 31, and Nov. 7 and 14). To make a reservation, visit mesatemple.org/open-house.
Interestingly, Luyendyk was the bachelor on “The Bachelor” during the same season as Maquel Cooper, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
Cooper said she hoped she could represent her religion on the show.
- “Before I went on the show, I was so scared that I would be turned into a villain or that my words would be twisted or that I would disappoint,” she told me. “I really want(ed) to represent my family, my state, my religion, myself. I didn’t want to do anything disappointing. So I don’t feel like I was true to myself. I was really quiet whenever the cameras were on me. Or on interviews, I wouldn’t state my actual answers. I wish I had been more myself and more goofy with stupid faces that I make and say my opinions on how I felt about things.”
