In a world of rising wellness trends, The22 celebrates its fourth anniversary with an encouraging message to stay authentic and tune into our internal wellness compass. Biohacking, forest bathing, sexual wellness and longevity are among the buzz words in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. Valued at over 2 trillion USD and climbing, wellness is seeping into every element of our lives, from gyms to fashion choices to TikTok trends. With a deluge of new information, where can we start, and how can we choose the wellness practices that are right for us? While we are often tempted to choose between the eastern and western philosophies of wellness, there lies a lot of wisdom in the nuances in between. The22, a humble yet powerful holistic wellness centre in the heart of Florence, is a testament to just that.

The22 was founded by two women from seemingly different worlds: Aparna Thadani, a yogini hailing from Singapore, and Lucinda Pasi, an ex-gymnast from Borgo San Lorenzo who wanted to marry their expertise in wellness. While The22’s underlying philosophy is inspired by the basic principles of Ayurveda and holistic living, Aparna and Luci found that both practices benefitted from the influence of the other, creating mindful fitness classes set to candlelight and yoga classes infused with modern tribal beats. While this may seem niche for a city like Florence, it is in fact the very Italian culture of Florence that allows the Indian health principles of ayurveda to thrive. The Italian way of living, or dolce vita as some like to call it, is in fact living a life of mindfulness, taking one’s time to enjoy the sweetness of life and the presence of the moment.

With its concept and philosophy pre-dating the pandemic (the original launch date was spring 2020 and instead began with online classes), The22 was one of the first of its kind in Florence, and continues to innovate and stay authentic in its offerings, providing Florentines genuine respite from daily life and a supportive, loving community all under the same roof. In a city so full of tourists, travellers, students and longer-term international residents, providing community and a safe haven have been some of the most powerful outcomes of The22.
The Anima Blueprint
To celebrate these four years, The22 will be hosting its second Wellness Summit: The Anima Blueprint, a day to celebrate diverse practices, new experiences and being well together in community. The theme is a call back to authenticity. In this fast-paced world where we are pulled from our centres by various personal and work commitments, swayed by splashy trends, or swept into behaviours because of expectation, we forget where to find answers that really work for us. We have become numbed through overstimulation, which has led to us feeling less yet doing more. The Anima Blueprint is a calling back to the body’s wisdom to seek answers through feeling, reminding us that our best teacher is us.

The22 has always had a mission to provide people with an array of practices that they can mix and match to nourish them on any particular day and that they can take with them even on their onward journey out of The22. The day will be filled with ‘disrupted classes’, a concept created by The22 in which two modalities are seamlessly mixed to attend to both the yin and yang energies of the body; more esoteric practices rooted in ancient mappings such as tarot and human design, and various workshops to deepen our understanding around the body’s wisdoms, from healthy aging to epigenetics and women’s health, to name a few.
