Earlier this month, the Houston Astros won the second World Series Championship in franchise history. Just a few weeks later, they added a former AL MVP to their already stacked lineup. Jose Abreu, the power-hitting first baseman who held down the position on the South Side of Chicago for the last nine seasons, agreed to a three-year deal reportedly worth $60 million total. One could argue that offense wasn’t the biggest priority for the ‘Stros (especially with Justin Verlander still unsigned), but nonetheless, the addition of Abreu should help Houston fight off the rest of the contenders in the AL as the Astros try to become the first World Series winners to repeat since the Derek Jeter-led Yankees won three in a row around the turn of the century.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. Abreu was an RBI machine in Chicago, knocking in 100 or more runs in a season six times. As of the end of the 2022 season, only 29 active MLB players have knocked in 100 or more runs in a season more than once. So with that in mind, how many of the 29 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
