FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Theater enthusiasts refresh their emails for any word after their auditions for roles in the coolest show coming to the Summit City- Disney’s Frozen.
The Fort Wayne Civic Theatre will be presenting the show in November. Over 140 performers flocked to the theatre’s temporary location on Bluffton Road on Sunday to sing their hearts out, hoping to be a part of the performance.
Marketing Director Capri Williams said this is the first time Frozen’s rights have been released for performance in the city. Between public casting and the musical’s popularity, she said staff were seeing lots of new faces walk into the auditions.
“You can have experience with dance and singing, but anyone can come out and audition,” Williams said. “This show is high energy and lots of fun, so we are really excited to see that in the room today.”
That spirit brought out many young ingénue’s.
14-year-old Kayley White and 13-year-old Zoe Dostall were in the same audition group. They both hope to be cast as Elsa or Anna, sisters and the musical’s leads.
“Theater is my really big passion, and it’s something that I love to do,” White said.
“It’s hard to not be in a show, because I just miss theater people and theater friends and performing,” Dostall said.
23-year-old Becca Daugherty auditioned for the role of Anna. She said she tries to bring a positive energy into her auditions.
“Mostly, I try to make the people who are sitting and watching smile,” Daugherty said. “That’s what theater is all about, bringing other people joy.”
But bearing your soul through song can be intimidating.
“I was really nervous, like I was shaking,” Dostall said.
“I try not to psych myself up too much,” Daugherty said.
The girls agreed it’s important to take a deep breath, relax and be yourself.
“[I try to] have confidence walking in and making sure I can do the best that I can,” White said.
“You can have experience with acting. You can have experience with dance and singing, but anyone can come out and audition,” Williams said.
All who get that call back will return to the theatre’s temporary location on 1940 Bluffton Road. If they make the final cut, they’ll be hitting Arts United Center’s stage on November 8 for opening night.
Frozen will be one of the first performances in the center’s auditorium, as renovations are expected to be completed in the fall of this year.
