MORNING HEADLINES | Charleston-filmed TV show “The Righteous Gemstones” received six Emmy nominations this year in outstanding cinematography, music supervision, sound editing, costumes, makeup and stunt coordination.
Episodes “Prelude” and “You Hurled Me Into the Depths…” were the two highlighted episodes to receive nominations in music, cinematography, costumes and makeup, while the show overall was nominated for stunt coordination.
This year’s nominations, combined with 2024 and 2022, lands the hit show with 10 Emmy nominations in its four-season run. Also nominated this year was native Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” for outstanding talk series.
“The Righteous Gemstones” stars Danny McBride, John Goodman, Edi Patterson and Adam DeVine. McBride, who created the show streamed on HBO Max, also writes, directs and executive produces the show. The series recently said goodbye to the Charleston area after wrapping its fourth and final season. The 2025 Emmy Awards will air live on CBS on Sept. 14.

Charleston city leaders on Tuesday discussed the intersection of Maybank Highway and Riverland Drive, which has been an issue for nearly 15 years, with its dangers increasing every year. There have been 19 collisions so far this year.
Charleston will be the runway for Breeze Airway’s international flight tests. Breeze Airways founder and CEO David Neeleman confirmed that the Lowcountry airport will be the company’s testing ground when it launches international service.
