Oliver Pluff & Co., a Charleston-based small business dedicated to preserving the tradition of time-honored teas and early American coffee blends, today announced the launch of in-person tea-making classes at their recently opened tea shop, located in the heart of downtown Charleston at 49 John St.
The first two classes will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13 and Aug. 20, from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and are now open for online registration. Interested individuals can submit the form at the bottom of this page. Please note that each class is limited to eight attendees and costs $50 per person.
The August classes, titled “Tea Four Ways,” explore the history of iced teas and highlight four different preparation methods: traditional iced tea, sun tea, cold brew and hot-to-iced. Attendees will taste each version, learn how the steeping method affects flavor and receive a packet of Oliver Pluff tea to explore at home.
Following these first two sessions, Oliver Pluff plans to hold two classes each month throughout the year (dates to be announced), covering various topics aimed at attracting new and experienced tea enthusiasts. Upcoming classes include “The Basics of Loose Tea,” which explores essential brewing techniques, common accessories needed and the effects of water temperature and tea quality, and “The History of Tea in America,” which dives deeper into all things tea and will explore how tea traveled to Europe and eventually reached the American colonies.
