The number of people displaced by war and persecution around the world remained “untenably high” at above 122 million this year due to longstanding conflicts such as those in Sudan and Ukraine, the UN refugee agency said on Thursday, though the return of almost two million Syrians displaced by the country’s civil war offered “rays of hope”.
