A clinic in Flagami was raided by undercover agents on Tuesday and a man accused of insurance fraud was taken into custody, police said.
According to police, officers served a warrant at the H. Miami Medical Clinic, located on West Flagler Street and Southwest 40th Avenue.
With the help of the FBI, officers were able to catch up with the owner of the clinic, 62-year-old Alex Borrero.
“The goal here is to slow down the insurance fraud that’s occurring in the City of Miami,” said an undercover agent.
Officials said Borrero is accused of taking part in a scheme that fakes car wrecks and then bills insurance companies for phantom treatment of fake injuries.
“The victim here, which is the insurance company, reached out, noticed there was a small amount of individuals that were engaged in a large number of crash and would subsequently always get some sort of medical relief after,” said Miami Police Chief Manny Morales.
Officers were seen questioning a woman who was in the back of a police cruiser.
When asked for comment, Borrero said in Spanish that it was only an investigation.
In June, 30-year-old Rodylaidi Martinez and 24-year-old Greter Aguirre Guerra were arrested in connection with the same case.
