The man suspected of shooting and injuring two people in suburban Aurora is in custody after a nearly 24-hour manhunt, according to police.
Aaron Conley, 24, of Aurora, was taken into custody after turning himself in, the Aurora Police Department said in an update early Monday. More details were expected to be released later Monday, the update said.
The shooting took place in the 500 block of Station Boulevard just after 6 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities. When Aurora police arrived on the scene, they found that two victims had been shot near a basketball court in the neighborhood. Both were transported to a nearby hospital, and the suspect, Conley, had fled the scene.
One of the victims, a 20-year-old man, was listed in critical condition. The other victim, a 19-year-old man, was reported to have non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the shooting was an isolated incident between known acquaintances. Authorities had initially asked residents to remain in their homes after the shooting, but lifted that request after it was determined the suspect had fled the area.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, police said, and an investigation remains ongoing.
