NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Muggy conditions have returned with patchy fog mostly out east earlier as well as some lingering showers with occasional rumbles of thunder in the higher elevations to Southeast New Mexico with gusty east gap winds for some areas. Way-above-freezing temperatures were even confined to most of the higher peaks of the Northern Mountains with valley floor locations mostly starting off in the upper 40s or in the 50s, while elsewhere was mostly starting off in the upper 50s to the low 70s.
More-persistent upper-level south-southwesterly winds with a low pressure moving closer to the region will combine to squeeze out more moisture in the form of more rounds of Monsoonal thunderstorms across the burn scars especially with flooding more likely, across the higher elevations, and across Eastern to Central New Mexico. Thicker cloud cover will dampen high temperatures slightly but most will still reach into the upper 80s and 90s with a few southwestern areas reaching 100 degrees, while some highly-elevated areas or northern areas won’t get out of the 70s.
Moist air is moving in, but the pendulum swing pattern of muggy mornings with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons forming storms to the east will still continue though. Hotter and drier weather will then slowly return for areas out west tomorrow with storms still forming out east, but even higher temperatures will ensue later this week with few storms in the mountains.
