SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Polls in San Jose open Tuesday at 7 a.m. as the city looks to fill its City Council District 3 seat. The seat was vacated in November 2024 when Omar Torres resigned amid child sexual assault allegations.
District 3 covers parts of downtown San Jose and Japantown, which struggle with homelessness. There are at least five candidates who want the open council member seat, and all of them say they will try to tackle homelessness in the area if elected.
To win, a candidate must get at least 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate receives that many votes on Tuesday, a runoff election will be held in June between the top two vote-getters.
