One of the most popular roller coasters at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee will temporarily close as it undergoes a “major refresh” at the amusement park.
The announcement, made Monday on Six Flags Great America’s Facebook Page, said guests’ last chance to ride Raging Bull would be Aug. 18, before it “temporarily closes for a full repaint.”
The park, currently open daily, also announced that beginning on Aug. 18, it would move to weekend hours-only through the Labor Day.
The ride originally opened to the public May 1, 1999. At the time, Raging Bull was the “world’s first hyper-twister roller coaster,” Six Flags said, and was the tallest and longest coaster at the park.
Earlier this summer, Six Flags Great America’s newest roller coaster, the “Wrath of Rakshasa,” opened at the park.
Six Flags Great America did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
