LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Kayla Van de Ven and senior Mackenzie Wilson each tied for tenth to lead the Wichita State women’s golf team to a fourth-place team finish at the Jayhawk Invitational on Monday at the Jayhawk Club.
The Shockers fourth place finish came behind round scores of 306, 307, and 305. Among teams, Louisiana Monroe upset No. 21 Kansas to win the team crown with a score of 879, 15 strokes over par.
In their opening round of the season, Wichita State’s Van de Ven and Wilson came out firing, with Wilson posting a 74 and Van de Ven a 75, putting them both in the top ten through the opening round.
Competing as an individual, Amelie Paul also impressed, posting her own 74 round score, putting three Shockers in the tournament top ten through the first 18 holes.
In the second round, Paul continued to perform, posting a one-over 73 round to move into a tie for second place after the first 36 holes. Wilson kept pace with the top ten, posting a score of 75 in round two to sit tied for ninth.
On the final day of play, the three aforementioned Shockers continued to play well, all recording rounds in the mid 70s to finish in the tournament top ten.
Paul was the highest finish Shocker, tying for seventh with a 223 (+7) tournament score, tying her collegiate best 54-hole score, and recording her first collegiate top ten finish.
Van de Ven recorded her best collegiate finish by tying for tenth. Wilson notched her fifth career top ten performance.
Next up, the Shockers head to Springfield, Mo., for Missouri State’s Payne Stewart Memorial Sep. 7-8.
