Several suburban Chicago hospitals were named among Illinois’ top 10 hospitals, with three other Chicago hospitals making the report and two of them ranking among the “Best Hospitals” nationally.
The “Best Hospitals 2025-26” list, released Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report, evaluated nearly 4,440 hospitals around the nation across more 15 specialties and more than a dozen data points, including patient care, patient outcomes, patient experience, staffing and more.
In total, 504 hospitals were ranked across regions, with individual state rankings along with a nationwide “Best Hospitals Honor Roll” list of 20.
“In each state and region, hospitals with a wide breadth of excellence are recognized as Best Regional Hospitals, and the best of them are also named to the national Honor Roll,” the report described.
The “Best Regional Hospitals” were ranked based how well they performed across at least nine procedures and conditions, including common ones like hip replacement and heart failure. “Across service lines and in quality measure after quality measure, the hospitals in this group collectively define excellence,” editors said.
In Illinois, two Chicago hospitals tied, both earning the title of the No. 1 hospital in the state: Northwestern Medicine-Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Streeterville, and Rush University Medical Center on the Near West Side. Those two hospitals also ranked on the report’s national list of 20 best hospitals.
University of Chicago Medical Center also made the list of Best Regional Hospitals for Illinois, coming in at No. 3. The rest of the hospitals that ranked on the Illinois top 10 list were in the suburbs, spanning areas from McHenry, to Evanston, to Oak Lawn.
Chicago’s Shirley Ryan AbilityLab also earned honors in the report, ranking as the No. 1 hospital for rehabilitation in the country.
