San Diego’s restaurants once again made an impressive showing in this year’s California Michelin Star selections.
The French gastronomic guidebook has again awarded a highly coveted three-star rating to Addison, a California Gastronomy-themed restaurant in Del Mar.
California Gastronomy relies heavily on regional ingredients and seasonal dishes, but does so while incorporating nods to the many different histories and cultures that coexist throughout the state.
“The cuisine here has always had an amazing sense of place, and I wanted to help see it grow,” Chef William Bradley, a San Diego native, told Michelin in 2022.
Last year, Valle, Chef Roberto Alcocer’s modern Mexican restaurant in the Mission Pacific Hotel overlooking the Oceanside Pier, was recognized as the San Diego area’s fifth Michelin Star restaurant.
Valle joined three other local single-star restaurants — Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad, Soichi in University Heights, and Sushi Tadokoro in Old Town.
According to Michelin, a single star is awarded to “restaurants using top quality ingredients, where dishes with distinct flavors are prepared to a consistently high standard.”
The coveted three stars is the highest rating, awarded for the “superlative cooking of chefs at the peak of their profession.”
With the exception of Addison, all of California’s three-star restaurants are in the San Francisco Bay area and adjacent wine country.
