SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Community members and drag performers are set to take the streets of Hillcrest on Sunday afternoon for the third annual San Diego Drag March for Trans Rights — a display of solidarity with the trans and non-binary community.
The grassroots event, first launched in 2023 by local drag entertainers, has grown into a rallying point for LGBTQ+ activism in San Diego. Organizers say this year’s march is more urgent than ever, citing over 100 bills passed across the United States so far in 2025 that they say are anti-trans.
“Our trans siblings have always stood with and been a part of our struggle for greater LGBT acceptance and equal rights,” said Sister Iona Dubble-Wyde, a member of the event’s planning committee. “It’s important that we stand with them and for them when their very existence is under attack by this administration.”
The festivities were slated to begin at noon at Urban Mo’s Bar & Grill, located at 308 University Ave., where participants gathered for a sign-making party and pre-show kickoff. Supplies were available for those in attendance.
At 3 p.m., the crowd will march from Urban Mo’s to Rich’s San Diego, located at 1051 University Ave., led by prominent drag entertainers and activists, including Honey Mahogany, Chad Michaels, Glitz Glam, Paris Sukomi Max, and Amber St. James.
Upon arrival at Rich’s around 3:30 p.m., the rally will begin with remarks from leading trans voices, including Honey Mahogany, Paulo Batista and Emem Maurus. Organizers say they will highlight the need for protection, visibility and legislative action in support of trans and non-binary people.
Following the rally, the celebration is set to continue with a drag show starting at 4:30 p.m., hosted by Sister Amanda Reckinwith and Mariam T. Performers include San Diego and national favorites such as Karma Kill, Ariel Jackson Hollywood, Jazzelene East Coast, and the House of Barr.
This year’s march comes amid growing concerns about legislative and societal attacks on transgender people across the country.
