RICHMOND, Texas (KTRK) — The Richmond Police Department said two suspects have been arrested, but only one of them allegedly shot at a sergeant on Friday.
Lt. Lowell Neinast with the department told ABC13 that this all started when someone called around 1 a.m. to report someone was firing shots into a home on Fiesta Lane.
The lieutenant said they first detained one individual identified as Alexander McMillon, 44, near the scene, but were shot at by someone else as that was taking place. A SWAT team was assembled to look for the second suspect, according to police.
“We’re doing everything we can to protect the public. We will be out in the area until he is caught,” Neinast said. “He’s running, he’s scared.”
In a later update, Neinast said the second suspect, identified as Elridge Strauss, 38, was taken into custody after lengthy negotiations.
Authorities said not only did the second suspect fire at officers, but also at three different homes.
There was a heavy police presence, including road blockages, near the intersection of Preston Street and Collins Road.
“The main suspect is in custody, and we’re getting ready to open the area back up,” Neinast said.
Neinast told ABC13 it’s believed that the man who shot into the homes on Fiesta Lane knew somebody inside, adding that “all locations of the shootings were all family members of each other.”
The lieutenant wouldn’t go into further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
In an update on Friday afternoon, police said that both Strauss and McMillon were transported to the Fort Bend County Jail on Friday. Strauss faces charges including three counts of assault family violence, an unlawful possession of a firearm, and three counts of deadly conduct, police said. McMillon faces charges including an unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and a possession of drug paraphernalia.
