CLAYTON, Mo. – The Jewish Federation of St. Louis and the Anti-Defamation League are offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in an alleged antisemitic arson case in Clayton.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Aug. 5 in the 7500 block of Westmoreland Avenue, where three cars were intentionally set on fire and graffiti reading “Death to the IDF” was spray-painted across the street.
“Antisemitic violence has no place in America, not in St. Louis and not anywhere. We will pursue every avenue to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Leo Terrell, the DOJ Anti-Semitism Task Force Chair, wrote on social media.
Jewish Federation President Danny Cohn expressed hope that the increased reward will help lead to an arrest.
“The Jewish community is still on edge, but we’re not letting the edge keep us from living our daily lives,” Cohn said.
The Department of Justice has revealed that an American citizen who recently served in the Israeli Defense Forces and his family appear to have been the targets of the arson attack.
Clayton police have classified the car fires as a hate crime, and the FBI is involved in the investigation.
Crime Stoppers is also assisting Clayton PD and offering an additional $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The Jewish National Defense Network is contributing a $10,000 reward, bringing the total reward money being offered to $42,000.
