SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A Vons grocery store was evacuated Tuesday morning after reports of an unknown leak causing a “strong smell” in the building.
San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters responded to the Vons located at 3550 Murphy Canyon Road around 9:10 a.m. when crews who were doing maintenance work on a refrigerant unit reported a leak.
They said the leak caused a “strong smell” in the store, prompting an employee to initiate the evacuation of the building out of an abundance of caution.
A hazmat team arrived to investigate around 9:40 a.m. and helped with mop up efforts.
The store reopened before 11:30 a.m.
