The Takedown on SI has reported that AJ Styles is expected to make an appearance in some capacity at TNA Slammiversary this weekend.
Speculation on the former TNA World Champion returning to his old stomping grounds stems from a social media post by TNA President Carlos Silva, who stated the upcoming event would be “TNA’s greatest achievement” before teasing it was going to be “PHENOMENAL.”
Styles, who has been going by the nickname “Phenomenal One” for roughly two decades, appeared on the very first weekly PPV event for TNA, beginning a run that lasted over a decade before his departure in 2014 to pursue other opportunities, eventually signing with WWE in 2016.
The report notes that the appearance has been in the works for some time now, a top priority for the upper brass within TNA.
No indication has been given as to what his appearance would entail, but multiple sources expressed optimism for a future match as part of the partnership between TNA and WWE.
TNA Slammiversary takes place Sunday, July 20 from the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.
