ST. LOUIS — World-renowned opera singer Jermaine Smith is stepping into a whole new spotlight—this time in a Broadway-style musical. He sat down with FOX 2’s Laura Simon to talk about his role in Five Guys Named Moe. It’s a tribute to jazz legend Louis Jordan.
The show hits the stage Saturday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. at the Lee Theater inside the Touhill Performing Arts Center on UMSL’s campus. Tickets are $30, with student discounts available for $15 at touhill.universitytickets.com.
The production features The Jazz Edge Orchestra, pianist Reggie Thomas, and a full cast of powerhouse performers. Smith says this role is a step away from opera, but it’s the music, the story and the legacy of Louis Jordan that drew him in.
He hopes the audience walks away feeling uplifted and inspired. The one-time performance is happening at 5 p.m. Saturday June 21 at 5 p.m.
