More storms have returned to start the week, but drier weather will be moving in starting Tuesday. Temperatures will be heating as well with highs into the triple digits by the middle of the week.
It’s an active start to the work week across New Mexico with scattered showers and storms. Storms have brought heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and severe weather to parts of the state today as well. Where it was drier today, temperatures climbed above average today. Storms have mostly ended tonight, but there are still a couple moving through southeast New Mexico. A few more storms will linger overnight in south-central parts of the state. Similar areas will see a chance for rain and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon as high temperatures will climb even higher.
Drier air moves into the New Mexico Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure continues to strengthen over the state. This will bring high temperatures well-above average for this time of year, with just a few spotty afternoon storms mainly over mountain peaks.
Thursday and Friday will be the hottest days of the week across New Mexico, with near record high temperatures possible. A few more showers and storms will be possible in southern and eastern New Mexico. The heat will continue into the weekend as rain chances will be on the increase.
