In an interview with the YouTube channel of former Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg, Rafael Nadal talked about his future, praising also Novak Djokovic’s mental strenght. Rafa said: “I think everyone has problems, especially people who play sports that push the mental and physical part to the limit.

As you get older, the sensations become slightly different. I had a hard time with my left foot injury. I hope to be able to recover and be ready for the start of next season. Of course I have some doubts, but I know the process.

I have found myself in this situation many times in my career. It is true that with the passage of time it becomes much more difficult, but I am really happy with the path I am taking. I know what I have to do to get back. If I am able to play without feeling too much pain, I will have my opportunities.

Doubts allow you to work correctly. If you don’t question yourself in your life, it means that you are an arrogant person. You always have to ask yourself what is the best thing to do. I think too much confidence can help you in the beginning, but in the long term it doesn’t allow you to work well.

Djokovic? He’s probably a machine mentally, but I’m sure he has doubts about him too. We have a different character, but they both work. Everyone needs to find his way. There is no single way to success.”

Rafael Nadal’ season

The second part of the season Rafael Nadal was unfortunately conditioned by the problem in his left foot which prevented him from expressing himself to the fullest of his abilities starting from Paris.

After missing Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics, the Spaniard tried to take the field at the ATP 500 tournament in Washington. The Majorcan moved rather badly on the pitch and showed a strong discomfort in his foot. The negative feelings everyone experienced at the end of the game with the American subsequently found confirmation, as Nadal struggled even harder against Lloyd Harris.

After consulting the doctors and carrying out various checks on the extent of the injury, Nadal finally decided to undergo a particular treatment, not a real operation, and to close his season prematurely. The Majorcan has increased his workload in recent weeks and will participate in the Mubadala World Tennis Champioship in late December.

His goal is to present himself in the best possible conditions in Australia, where he could be the only one of the Big 3 to take part in the Australian Open 2022.
