A Queens man turned himself in after allegedly gunning down his wife’s lover outside the boyfriend’s home in College Point Thursday night, according to the NYPD.
Police say 55-year-old Jose Centeno’s wife was at her boyfriend’s home when Centeno arrived around 10:30 p.m. The couple is married but separated and police say Centeno and the boyfriend, 50-year-old Antonio Cantor, got into a fight outside the home. Centeno fired three shots at Cantor as his wife looked on, officials said.
The NYPD said Cantor was struck in the chest and stomach. EMS transported him to New York-Presbyterian in Queens in critical condition and he later died, police said.
Just 12 hours later, Centeno turned himself in at the 109th Precinct station house, police said. The NYPD charged him with murder and illegally possessing a weapon.
Attorney information for Centeno wasn’t immediately available.
So far this year there have been four shootings in the 109th Precinct, which is about average over the last few years, though last year there were none over the same period.
Domestic violence citywide has been about 40% higher since the pandemic, according to police data.
