Another popular Chicago restaurant is headed to the northern suburbs: The Goddess and the Baker.
The fast-casual coffee and espresso shop and restaurant known for its salads, sandwiches, avocado toasts, breakfast and bakery goods, will open in Edens Plaza at 3232 Lake Ave. in Wilmette in either late summer or fall 2025, according to the restaurant and the village.
The announcement comes as cult-favorite burger and shake joint Small Cheval is opening a location in downtown Wilmette later this summer.
The new restaurant will open in the spot currently occupied by longtime tenant Corner Bakery, which closed earlier this summer, according to reports. The Wilmette location will join Goddess and the Baker’s five Chicago locations, along with one in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
The Edens Plaza shopping center, in West Wilmette, has been undergoing redevelopment since WS purchased it in 2022. Once home to Bed, Bath & Beyond and Carson Pirie Scott, the center is now anchored by Wayfair, which opened in 2024. The center has also seen other new tenants, including a Just Salad restaurant and an Uncharted clothing store.
In East Wilmette, the same firm is redeveloping the Plaza del Lago shopping center, originally built in the 1920s.
