A video showing a black paraplegic man being dragged from his car by police officers in the United States is under investigation by the Dayton Police Department.

The body cam footage came from Dayton, Ohio, in September when police stopped Clifford Owensby and asked him to step out of his car so that they could search it for drugs.

The 39-year-old refused, insisting that he does not have use of his legs, but officers insisted that he got out anyway, before pulling him out of the car by his hair and arms.

Mr Owensby is heard in the video asking an officer to call in a “white shirt”, meaning a superior officer.

“Here’s the thing, I’m going to pull you out and then I’ll call a white shirt,” an officer said in response.

“You can co-operate and get out of the car or I’ll drag you out of the car. Do you see your two options here?”

Dayton’s mayor Nan Whaley described the footage as “very concerning”.
