Pat McAfee explains his recent absence from WWE Raw.
For the last three weeks, Michael Cole has sat beside either Wade Barrett or Corey Graves on the WWE Raw commentary desk, while his usual broadcast colleague, Pat McAfee, has remained absent from television. On Monday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee provided an update on his whereabouts as it relates to WWE.
“Continuing to just like kinda catch up on life as a whole. Post-Money in the Bank, pre-Night of Champions, feels like a good time. I was getting pretty exhausted there,” he said (H/T to the Wrestling Observer for the transcription). “So shout out to everybody at WWE for looking out for me too. Very, very thankful.”
As of this writing, it is unknown when McAfee will return to his WWE commentary duties. His absence began on June 9, when SmackDown broadcaster Wade Barrett took his place. In the two weeks following, NXT’s Corey Graves stepped up to fill it.
This week’s edition of Raw emanated from Columbus, Ohio, with Jey Uso vs. Cody Rhodes facing off in a King of the Ring semi-finals main event. Elsewhere, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther issued a stern message to his upcoming challenger, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. Last month, McAfee battled Gunther at WWE Backlash but fell short.
McAfee returned to his position behind the WWE announce desk for the Netflix premiere of Raw, and in doing so, reunited with Cole, who he previously worked with on SmackDown and Raw.
