Two teenagers from Gaza injured in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas have arrived in the U.S. to receive medical care.
The Palestinian teens flew into Dulles International Airport Saturday evening.
They were greeted with cheers and hugs and a large crowd waving flags.
Both boys lost their left legs in explosions and one of the boys says he was also shot in the lower back.
The medical trip was made possible by the nonprofit Heal Palestine. It’s a U.S.-based group that provides urgent, long-term support to Palestinian children and families.
“They are ready to begin. Their care will start on Monday,” said Nur Seirafi with Heal Palestine’s Global Healing Program. “Their spirits are high, and they’re ready. We have an amazing community that’s here to welcome them, so yeah, their spirits are high.”
Organizers say they’ve brought over more than 60 Palestinian children so far, and they plan to continue. It’s all made possible through a network of American hospitals, donors and volunteers.
